Owls are mysterious and amazing creatures!  We will learn what it’s like to be an owl and end the night with a hike calling for owls.

Creatures of the Night

Creatures of the Night will focus on nocturnal animals of the wood lands. We'll start in the "Stone House" with some information and refreshments. Then you will go out in groups led by our Environmental Eagles. Please bring a flashlight.

Eagles and vultures and hawks - oh my! We will learn about the tough-looking raptors, then take a walk with binoculars to see who is soaring in the air.

Field Trip: Lakota Wolf Preserve

Caravan from Cora Hartshorn Arboretum: 8:30 AM
Tour at Lakota Wolf Preserve: 9:55 AM - 12:00 PM
Wolf Watch tours are led by owner Jim Stein and Becky Mace, who have raised and cared for all the animals at the preserve. During their presentations you will learn about the social structure of wolf packs, their eating habits, their interaction with man, and many other interesting facts.

It is highly recommended by the Preserve to carpool. A caravan will leave at 8:30 AM from Cora Hartshorn Arboretum (324 Forest Drive South, Short Hills). If you choose, you may also meet us at the Camp Taylor Campground (89 Mt. Pleasant Road, Columbia NJ) no later than 9:45 AM. Tour will end at 12 noon. Please dress for walking and the outdoors. Registration is limited!
